BMAC stands for Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate. This treatment uses your own cells and platelets to repair your injury. BMAC has a high concentration of pluripotent stem cells (the same ones that are used when a patient has a bone marrow transplant), platelets and other blood cells and factors from your bone marrow.

During your visit to BH Cellular Medicine, you will be escorted to a comfortable, private room. The doctors will discuss your upcoming procedure and treatment plan and answer any questions you may have. Our nurses will check your vital signs and take care of you throughout your time at our clinic. The in-and-out procedure takes approximately four hours. Most of this time will be spent relaxing, listening to music or watching television, while Dr. Bertolotto works in the laboratory to prepare your cells for your procedure. The procedure is minimally invasive and performed under sterile conditions guided by ultrasound imaging.

A few hours after the BMAC treatment, you may experience discomfort in the treated area due to a physiological inflammatory response. This response is a natural part of the body’s healing process and may be associated with the initial stages of tissue repair. The inflammation and the discomfort may last for a few days and will be managed according to your doctor’s recommendations, which may include icing, hot packs and/or medication. Because this is a biological treatment, it may take several weeks before you begin to notice improvement in the treated area. Improvement is generally gradual and can continue over time. In some cases, only one treatment will be needed. In other cases, you may need more than one treatment, depending on your specific condition and the doctor’s assessment. After you leave the clinic, our doctors and nurses will follow up with you to see how you are feeling and to monitor your progress.
